The goal is to break the record of 250 people in the Largest Treasure Hunt cagetory in the Guinness Book of World Records. Islanders and visitors are welcome to join in the fun and sign their names to the roster, which will be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records to prove the island has broken the record. Registration is free and includes a commemorative T-shirt sponsored by Congress Jewelers. The Sanibel Bicycle Club will lead a ride to the beach (helmets are encouraged). The Shellabration! 2012 Gala will be held at The Sanctuary Golf Club on Sunday, February 19.
The Community House is hosting the evening to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Sanibel Shell Fair and Show. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, followed by dinner and dancing Tom Tiratto and his orchestra will be the featured entertainment. Tiratto's show, A Tribute to the Man and his Music, features Frank Sinatra classics including New York, New York, Summerwind, and My Way. Tiratto has performed throughout the U.S. and Canada, and in Europe. Appearances in the U.S. include Busch Gardens, Las Vegas and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. As part of Shellabration! 2012, The Community House will be hosting the Shell Couture Fashion Show featuring garments embellished with shells. The fashion show and luncheon will be on Monday, February 27 beginning at 11 a.m. at The Sanctuary Golf Club, Sanibel.
The grand prize fashion designer will receive $500. Shell-themed works of art are still needed for the silent auction. Contributing shell artists will receive media recognition, a free ticket to the fashion show, and 50 percent of the auction sale price. Each artist may submit up to three shell-themed works. Proceeds from the fashion show benefit operations at The Community House. For tickets or more information call 472-2155. Tickets are $35 for the luncheon and show.
