Dining on Sanibel & Captiva feel full and hopping with the influx of tourists and visitors looking for Sanibel Island real estate during prime time. They bike. They stroll. They parade up and down Periwinkle, heading to the Lighthouse, the restaurants, and the shops. They meander up and down Andy Rosse Lane. I love to see them biking all along Ding Darling. You probably won’t find me making that trek, but their enthusiasm to conquer that long bike trail inspires me. The energy those northerners (for all hail from some parts further north) bring is the fuel that propels local businesses for the rest of the year. Sure, the extra cars impede quick travel and the extra diners take the best reservations, but we Floridians welcome these visitors as gracious hosts. We hope they will stay and make this their beloved home too.
Summer Time Dining on Sanibel & Captiva
If you are at all like our family, summer on Sanibel and Captiva provides a lovely respite. If May is a detox from season, in June, the islands exhale. We all breathe the deep green of the humid air. Boating early in the day, before the rain rolls upon us from the mainland with ominous billowing, dark gray storm fronts. Taking naps to the sounds of thunder in the distance while hearing the rain patter (or pound!) on the tiles or tin of the roof. Wandering out to our favorite restaurant because we can get a table! So where are you heading for dinner? Doc Ford’s? Sweet Melissa’s? Mucky Duck? Lazy Flamingo? You are sure to get a table and savor the flavors of our island fare. Take some time to enjoy the lazy days.
