We all love to tell others about the charm and character of the islands, but there is a catch 22 of being a part of the Captiva and Sanibel Island real estate market: the more you tell the more people will know. It’s great for real estate, but the traffic guards will have their work out for them.
Just four short days ago, Forbes lifestyle contributor Katie Bell recently reviewed Sanibel and Captiva Islands in her article, “Sanibel + Captiva Islands: Florida’s Best Family-Friendly Nature-Loving Escapes.” In those four days since the article was published, it has received over 1,600 views.
In her piece, Bell writes with the unique and valuable perspective of an adult who hasn’t visited the islands since she was a young girl. After visiting the islands more recently, Bell writes, “Sanibel and Captiva … also have a few simple guidelines in place that keep this wildlife-rich paradise as pristine as it was when I first visited as a young girl almost 40 years ago.”
Local regulations have maintained the character and quality of the islands that Bell experienced when she first visited as a young girl. She writes about biking on the island, nature preerves such as the 2,619 acre Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge and of course, “uncrowded beaches and unparalleled shelling.”
Since Captiva and Sanibel Island are common destinations for families, it is worthwhile to include a memory from that trip Katie Bell took many years ago:
“During my first visit as a child, my father and I decided to go shelling in the rain. We discovered the most magical things on that gloomy day–lighting whelks, king conch, shark eyes–even the occasional fish or horseshoe crab washed ashore by storm tide. Our pockets bulged with loot. I felt like an explorer, alone in the beachy wilderness. The adventure remains one of my most treasured memories with my dad to this day.”
