One of the best aspects of moving into the Sanibel Island Real Estate market is the proximity to incredible natural resources such as the J. N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Another incredible local resource is the Sanibel Captiva Community Bank.
That’s why local residents are excited to know that Ding Darling received a donation from the Sanibel Captiva Community Bank as support for their annual “Ding” Darling Days event coming up on October 18-24.
According to the Naples Daily News, the leaders of the bank are excited to support the efforts at “Ding” Darling. “‘The refuge is one of the island’s treasures,’ said bank President and CEO Craig Albert. ‘Supporting “Ding” Darling Days helps enhance an important educational resource and brings visitors to our island. The bank is proud to back this annual event.'”
“Ding” Darling Days, an event for bird watchers and nature lovers, is now in its 26-annual year of operation.
The first day of the event is scheduled to be Family Fun Day on October 18 with tours of the wildlife refuge, presentations, archery, food, and plenty of activities for children and families to experience and learn about nature with all five senses.
The final day of the event, October 24, will be a “Conservation Art Day” celebration including Federal Duck Stamp and Junior Duck Stamp winners. These are in honor of the Duck Stamp Program initiated by Darling dating back to 1934. To learn more about the Duck Stamp Program and its impact on the conservation efforts at “Ding” Darling, here is an article on the foundation website.
Between the two bookend events, there will be free and discounted activities such as kayaking, biking boating, and presentations for visitors to understand an interpretation of the nature around them at the refuge. This is truly an event for everyone in Southwest Florida as well as for avid bird watchers coming from across the nation.
