We’re gearing up for another great year in Sanibel real estate!
As we look towards the future, it’s good to look at the past. Florida Realtors gave a great recap and breakdown of all that happened in Florida’s 2015 real estate market in a recent news post, 2015 Florida real estate year in review. It covers a range of topics from the recovering market to the new mortgage process introduced in October.
Real estate on Sanibel and across the state has certainly strengthened in 2015. We saw a lively and active marketplace with a growing market of home buyers–from millennials to baby boomers, lower mortgage rates, increased home sales, and shorter housing supply. These conditions led to increased spending on construction and renovations, more new home builds, and higher sales prices.
Most noteworthy, of course, is that the real estate market is back in full force, and across the country, Florida’s rebound has led the nation.

Some have questioned whether the fast pace of 2015’s real estate recovery will lead to another bubble waiting to burst, but industry specialists disagree, reasoning that homes in only a few selected cities might become overvalued. Also, most loans are at a fixed rate this time around, first-time homebuyer programs are much stronger, and the recent spike in housing prices can mostly be attributed to the construction industry catching up with the growing demand.
All considered, the forecast for 2016 is that home prices will continue to rise, but at a more steady and manageable rate. To read the full review, see the original article.
