A large part of what makes Sanibel real estate so desirable and valuable is it’s condition as a protected environmental sanctuary. There’s a communal commitment to appreciating and maintaining the nature of Sanibel and Captiva islands. With clean waters, pristine beaches, and preserved wetlands, it’s Florida at its finest.
The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF), a natural preservationist staple on the island, presents an exciting opportunity to learn more about Florida’s waterways and natural history–touring the Caloosahatchee River while cruising on a 47-passenger pontoon.

Guided by Rae Ann Wessel, river researcher, historian, and Policy Director at SCCF, the tours will explore the history of the river itself as well as the settlers who traveled upon it. Beyond educational, the pontoon cruise along the river also allows for wonderful sightseeing, birdwatching, and photographing.
Starting at the WP Franklin Lock, the cruises are about an hour’s drive from Sanibel and will be available on select Sundays this winter and early spring (1/24, 2/14, 2/28, 3/13, 4/10). Tickets are $45 a person. To make a reservation or schedule a private group tour, call SCCF at 239-472-2329.
