If you visit or live on Sanibel Island, you are no stranger to Florida’s natural beauty. And there’s so much more than just the white, shell speckled beaches we know.
The Florida Trail is perhaps the epitome of all the Florida landscape has to offer, and this year is its 50th anniversary. The Florida Trail is a 1,400 mile National Scenic Trail that stretches from the edge of the Everglades to Pensacola Beach.
Sandra Friend and John Keatley, authors of the award winning book: The Florida Trail Guide, will be speaking about “How to Hike the Florida Trail” on Sanibel at “Ding” Darling Visitor & Education Center. Besides practical tips about hiking in Florida, the husband and wife duo will share about their experience and insight.
Friend says, “Florida is different … the Florida Trail is Florida’s own National Scenic Trail and one of only 11 National Scenic Trails across America. It starts in a swamp, and ends on a beach. What you’ll see in between will give you a new appreciation for natural Florida.”
There will be two lectures this Friday, April 15, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Learn more from the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society or call 239-472-1100 ext. 241.
