As the Sunshine State, it’s easy to understand Florida ranks amongst the top three states in the country for solar energy potential. It might be surprising, however, that the state comes in 13th place for actual solar energy usage. For whatever reasons, solar energy hasn’t been a popular trend in Florida, but with growing awareness, capitalizing on this great natural resource could have incredibly positive environmental and economical implications.
Sanibel Island Real Estate could look brighter with some more solar energy. It just so happens that Southwest Florida gets more sunshine than the rest of the state. News-press.com covered a story on Florida’s solar energy potential, interviewing FGCU’s chair of the Renewable Energy Institute who says the area could be the major center for solar development in the state.
The future of moving towards solar energy statewide has an increasing number of benefits. Not only could it save significant funds, it can also keep money in the state, providing more jobs and bolstering the local economy. At it’s core, solar energy is sustainable and assists our reduction in the use of fossil fuels.
The move towards solar energy is not yet in full swing. There are still legislative and zoning restrictions when it comes to the scale of solar energy implementation. Currently, one common way Sanibel homeowners might use solar energy is to heat their pools, a natural solution. There are other ways to take advantage of this amazing natural resource, and the possibilities will just continue.
We all know that here on Sanibel and Captiva Islands, there’s plenty of sunshine to go around.
