Sanibel & Captiva Home Insurance Questions Answered

Our in-house insurance expert, Jason Huff, of Huff Insurance stopped by our morning meeting to discuss a few property insurance questions that are becoming more relevant in today local Sanibel and Captiva real estate and insurance market.

Question: Does insurance cover Air B&B?

Answer: Only if it is designated as a rental property, and then it would also depend on the rental frequency, so if they are renting for a one night, that needs to be disclosed to their agent. Typical homeowners or condominium unit-owner policies do not cover this, you must specify and discuss with your agent. Air B&B is going to increase in popularity. Air B&B does provide some liability coverage a no cost to the renter, but be cautious and read the contracts and discuss with your individual agent as it does not cover everything.

Question: Is a boat canopy covered?

Answer: Not for wind or wave action because the structure is over water. Docks are not covered either for wind or wave action. Swimming Pools are not covered for floods.
