The Sanibel Public Library is celebrating its 20th Anniversary at its current location. There will be music and light refreshments inside the library’s lobby on Jan. 23 from 2-4 p.m.
It has earned recognition for its stellar service and importance to the community. Library Journal named it a 5-Star Library in its annual America’s Star Libraries 2011 survey. The survey measured 7,153 public libraries across the United States and it was one of 200 to win the top award. The rating is based on circulation, visits, Internet use, and program attendance. In 2010 the Library won a 3-Star Library rating from Library Journal. Trip Advisor has ranked the Sanibel Public Library number one of 27 attractions on Sanibel Island.
Come see what the Sanibel Public Library is all about. It’s more than just books. Say hello to its friendly staff. Check out the Children’s Area and the Teen Space, designed by local teens and ‘tweens. The reference area offers a quiet spot for research. Enjoy the Large Type Book selection. Have a seat on the reading porch and just relax.
The Library offers audio-books, online access to downloadable books with your Sanibel Public Library card, a great selection of DVD’s, music CD’s, and magazines. Duane Shaffer, adult collection and event coordinator said, “The Sanibel Library is an unexpected treasure of literary pleasure.”
Joanne Wessels, technology manager, said that in 18 years: “The library has gone from zero computers for patron use to more than two dozen computers to go along with the wireless access. The library has Wi-Fi access throughout with a high speed internet (50MB) network connection. You can also bring your own wireless devices in. The library has had more than a quarter of a million internet users.”
