Trends continue to indicate that individuals are putting their trust back into the real estate market. In a recent survey conducted by Gallup, Inc., Americans voted real estate as the best long-term investment. Gallup, a global performance-management consulting firm known for their public opinion polls, administered the study earlier this month. It included a random sample of 1,015 adults across the U.S.
This is the second year Gallop’s survey confirmed real estate as the number one long-term investment according to the American public, further marking the strength of the housing market’s recovery (a detail also noted by Florida Realtors in one of their recent news articles). In this year’s poll, real estate took the lead with 31% popularity followed by stocks and mutual funds at 25% and gold at 19%.
We agree with most Americans’ investment sentiments and have noticed the same trends on a local level with Sanibel Island real estate. Our Managing Broker, Jay Richter, specifically noted “homes 2 million or higher gained over 15% in value,” even in market downturns, and “our numbers are at an all time high on Sanibel and Captiva Islands.”
Beyond the numbers, the study also identified real estate as a choice investment across gender, age and income groups. This may seem surprising, but perhaps it can be true that there’s something for everyone when it comes to real estate––a safe, sound investment and a place to call home.
