In a world with ever advancing technology, it’s only natural that real estate continues to get “smarter” too. Websites, mobile apps, and more –– these modern conveniences simplify processes and open a realm of possibilities for buyers, sellers, realtors, and homeowners alike.
We’re all well aware of how the internet has shaped the real estate market, just the ability to “show” houses digitally, through major listings online, has been revolutionary. Realtors can show video footage and 360 degree photos of listings, and there are public websites and apps like Zillow and Trulia with online real estate databases across the country. The latest development in home showing is even more digital –– a virtual realty tour using 3-D technology headsets, allowing you to “walk” through properties that perhaps aren’t even built yet.

Flir One is a lightweight thermal-imaging camera that attaches to your smart phone and displays what the naked eye can’t see. It imposes thermal readings on top of real physical details to reveal what’s underneath and areas of the home that may potentially need some work (pipes, windows, wall studs, circuits, etc.).
To get a better gauge on the “flow” of a home, there’s the app MagicPlan. It allows you to create professional and accurate floor plans with your tablet or smartphone by simply snapping pics of the space. Homeowners can also benefit from this handy app since it helps you reimagine spaces you’d like to renovate. When it comes to design and DIY, Houzz is the new kid on the block, the website and app for “housespiration.” Users can sort through a database of over 9 million interior design photos by type, styles, and regions to find ideas and professionals.
