While we love to call Sanibel Island home, we know that many others love to call it their home-away-from-home. It’s an ideal location to have a vacation home.
The Wall Street Journal recently posted an article about what to consider when looking for a vacation home, a “guide to real-estate romance, whether you’re in the market for a beachy retreat or mountain getaway.” Besides the cost, buyers need to think about the big picture. That includes recognizing whether the vacation home is the right fit for your lifestyle, family, hobbies, and more, for the long term too.
Living and working in Sanibel and Captiva’s laid-back tropical paradise, we’re very familiar with the comforts of the “beachy retreat.” Observing some of the factors the article took into consideration, we made our own descriptions of individuals who might have all the right reasons to own a vacation home on Sanibel or Captiva.
You are: Parents of young children.
Sanibel really does have something for everyone, catering to all age groups and life stages. Families with young children can enjoy the beach or pool all day, go fishing, take bike rides, go boating, see wildlife at J.N. Ding Darling, or participate in the Sanibel Sea School. There are many family-friendly restaurants and spots for takeout. Also, with a slower pace of life, Sanibel is an ideal retreat for families to “unplug” and spend quality time with one another, producing a childhood nostalgia of seashells, salty air, and family-time on Sanibel.
You are: Empty-nesters, have adult children or no kids.
Of course adults also enjoy the beach, bike rides, fishing, boating and wildlife as well. On top of that there’s world class dining and shopping – moments when you might want a quiet dinner out or to cook fresh seafood at home directly from the local fishmonger. There are also many opportunities for exercise with over 25 miles of biking and walking paths, local gyms and classes, and not to mention walks on the beach. There’s the local theater, places of worship, and organizations to get involved in. Retired couples enjoy meeting new people and making new friends, and it’s a home where your adult kids will want to visit and will enjoy as much as you do.
